Fact Sheets on Key Legislation Impacting Commercial Real Estate

AB 1218: Demolition of Residential Dwelling Units – Signed into Law
AB 1218 seeks to amend existing demolition protections for housing units to require homes razed by certain commercial development projects to be replaced and rebuilt.

AB 1572: Potable Water Use on Nonfunctional Turf – Signed into Law
AB 1572 prohibits the use of potable water for the irrigation of nonfunctional turf located on commercial, industrial, and institutional properties. 

SB 253: Climate Corporate Data Accountability Act – Signed into Law
SB 253 requires any business entity with total annual revenues more than $1 billion to publicly report their annual greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. These disclosures will include corporate supply chains (scope 3), which can include more than 90% of a corporation’s carbon emission. 

SB 1439: Campaign Contributions – Signed into Law
SB 1439 sets a $250 cap on contributions to local elected officials from certain entities such as businesses and their employees. 

AB 1000: Warehouse Ban – Dead for Now
AB 1000 would ban the development of warehouse and logistics centers over 100,000 square feet within 1,000 feet of "sensitive receptors," which include a wide variety of non-industrial uses. 

AB 1748: Good Neighbor Policy for Sustainable Development in the Inland Empire – Dead for Now
AB 1748 aims to use the framework of the “Fontana Agreement,” to regulate industrial growth balances with environmental sustainability and community health by updating the way logistic facilities coexist with surrounding communities such as introducing a 300-foot setback requirement and additional landscape buffers.
