PUBLIC EMPLOYEE UNION POWER GRAB VETOED
July 29, 2011
Governor Brown has vetoed AB 455 (Campos; D-San Jose) which would give control of local government pay and policies to public employee unions. Many were concerned that the bill would effectively end future civil services reform efforts and likely make things worse over time.
In vetoing the message the Governor states, “This measure seeks to impose a level of state control that is inconsistent with my administration’s efforts to realign state services and increase local control.” We applaud those efforts to protect local government’s ability to make pay and personnel decisions and hope the Governor will remain consistent on that point.
