  • GOVERNOR DOES NOT SUPPORT SPLIT ROLL PROPERTY TAX

At the Urban Land Institute meeting in San Francisco earlier this week, Governor Jerry Brown flatly stated that he does not support removing Proposition 13’s protection for commercial properties.  “I’m not an advocate for split roll,” the Governor stated.

Although this position is not a surprise to CBPA – the Governor has several times over the years, declined to endorse the concept – we nonetheless are appreciative to hear it reaffirmed.  Union groups and some politicians have spent a lot of time and effort using this issue to “excite the base” but polling numbers show that they have not been able to make significant inroads with most moderate Democrats nor the public at large.
