The California Natural Resources Agency will conduct hearings on the proposed regulatory update to the California Environmental Quality Act – better known as CEQA — guidelines on March 14 in Los Angeles and March 15 in Sacramento.  In its simplest definition, CEQA is a statute that requires state and local agencies to identify the significant environmental impacts of their actions and to avoid or mitigate those impacts, if feasible.

However, over many years, many statutory additions, and many lawsuits, CEQA has grown to dominate the planning and development process for just about any project – public or private – in the state.

CBPA along with several allied groups whose members have direct experience with CEQA will be submitting comments.  However, we encourage members with an interest to also participate in the process.

Materials related to this rulemaking are available on the Natural Resources Agency’s website at http://resources.ca.gov/ceqa/.
